Wool, 2024
copper plate etching with drypoint printed on kozo paper (open edition)
Wool is a
piece in a larger project that I completed at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado. This piece is an in-depth study of intaglio processes on a copper plate. The visual language of this piece is based on a small piece of wool I found while on a hiking trail through sheep pastures in Ireland. The unassuming object became something else entirely under a microscope: knotted and twisted fibers appear almost otherworldly.
This type of mark making is important to my artistic practice, and Wool incorporates a physical object as a basis for a larger work. Wool is an open edition series of prints; I am continuing to print and work on the plate, developing it further through drypoint and printing on a variety of papers and ink colors.
